Things to Consider When Deciding to Work from Home
While working at home is a great opportunity to work fewer hours, have more flexibility and avoid the gruelling daily commute into an office, it is not for everyone. In fact, there is a great deal more discipline needed, as at home 'offices' pose a whole new set of obstacles. In order for you to better decide whether a home job is the right decision for you, I have outlined some of the pros and cons of both, based on my own experiences. We'll start with office jobs, which we are almost all familiar with. Associated perks with having an office job are of course a set salary, health benefits, vacation time, workplace cammaderie, and set work hours. Working from home often means sacrificing these luxuries depending on your vocation. While not having a set salary can be a bit stressful, it opens up doors to better income in accordance with your hard work and dedication. At first you will likely need to dedicate more time to your new at-home job, but the idea is that your business will begin to make you sufficiently more money with equal or less work than your previous salaried position. But do not be fooled into thinking that this will be easy. Working from home or starting your own company from home takes a self-motivated, proactive personality who can work well without someone telling them what to do and how quickly to do it. The associated downsides of working from home can also be thought of as perks depending on your personality. These include a lack of social interaction and working beyond 'office hours'. Perhaps, you are a person who needs that social interaction that is found in the office. After all when you close that fantastic deal for your firm, or write a fantastic press release, no one better than your colleagues understand the time and effort needed. Thus kudos from your spouse, however well intentioned, will probably not have the same value. In terms of that no longer visible nine to five job that you once lived, working according to your own inner clock does have its benefits also. While this does not mean putting in a mere 10 hours a week, because believe me if you don't put in the time and effort you will not see any financial reward, this flexibility gives great leeway for you nights hawks or weekend workers to work when you feel most productive and take advantage when you are feeling inspired. 0 Comments »RSS feed for comments on this post.
